Indira Gandhi Eye Hospitals’ strategy

Inception
The Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital and Research Centre (IGEHRC) was set up by Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust as its flagship eye care programme in 2004 to address the adverse situation in the country. Today, Indira Gandhi Eye Hospital and Research Centre and its four hospitals together constitute one of the largest providers of high-quality comprehensive eye care in North India.
The beginnings were small. A secondary care facility was established at Munshiganj in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh in 2005. Its immediate success indicated the dire need for quality eye care in the area. A tertiary care hospital at Qaisarbagh in Lucknow in 2008, another secondary care hospital at Sohna in Gurugram district of Haryana in 2014, and a super specialty hospital and research facility at Gurugram in 2017 followed, to cater to the underserved population.
